Our congregation’s first gathering was January 16, 2022. We had 31 baptized believers who were committed to working and worshipping with us on that day. Today we have about 45. Although this is not extraordinary growth, we praise God for it. This growth has come from baptisms and from move-ins. Our goal is to find someone who can be evangelistic as well as help us in our outreach. Our congregation is mostly Caucasian with 7 minorities. Our original members came about due to our former congregation splintering and our average age is about 53. Many in our Restoration Heritage would describe us as ‘Traditional’. Though I am not partial to that term it gives a general description of our direction that includes, Male leadership (we have 3 elders), A cappella worship, weekly taking the Lord’s supper, believer’s baptism after hearing, confessing and repenting, marriage is between the two genders, compassion toward the lost and a desire to save versus condemn (John 12.44-50). The person who we will hire will have a desire to seek and save the lost, encourage and instruct the saints to do the same, able to preach and teach the word from the pulpit and at the coffee table. We have not put age or marital restrictions on our search criteria. We are much more interested in things like his heart, character, spiritual direction, a love for God and His Word, His people, the lost and solid doctrine. Zachary Jones came to FSOP from the Lake Drive church of Christ in Vinton, Virginia, for whom Tommy Blewett (1986 FSOP graduate) has been preaching since 1988. Zachary became a Christian in 2018. Before enrolling in FSOP, he worked as an ice rink attendant. In addition to a high school diploma, he also attended the Secondary Academy for Success in Bothell, Washington. While a student at FSOP, Zachary served as our “tech guy.” He started school during the covid-19 pandemic, when FSOP installed new electronic equipment to maximize our online capabilities. Zachary was invaluable in helping us. After graduation, Zachary plans on working with Tommy and the Lake Drive congregation. Paul Walter came to FSOP from North Texas, having retired as chief of police after a twenty-seven year career with various departments in Mississippi and Oklahoma. He is a Marine Corp veteran. He is a licensed general contractor, plumber, HVAC, and electrician, and he has generously helped brethren with those talents. While a student, he was involved in Orange Street church of Christ’s Polk County jail ministry. He also went with Ted Wheeler on a mission trip to Ghana, West Africa. After graduation, Paul plans to return to North Texas and to work with his home congregation, Linden church of Christ, and other churches of Christ in that area as the need arises.
